Dr. Chris Hudson of Pine Medical physician’s
group in Fremont, discussed with Rotarians his upcoming mission trip
to Nairobi, Kenya. Dr. Hudson has made several trips to Nairobi,
offering his medical expertise to medical facilities there in both the
inner city of Nairobi and out in the rural area of Kenya, as well.
Dr. Hudson was first introduced to the region as a medical student
and then returned following his residency. While in Africa, he has
treated patients with a variety of medical ailments including TB,
burns, HIV, snake bites, donkey bites and malaria.
This year’s trip, his tenth, will take him to a two-year old
mission hospital for the poor. The hospital is located in the inner
city of Nairobi – a metropolis of three million people with two
million of those people living in poverty. The hospital, Saint Mary’s,
has quickly become the busiest hospital in all of Kenya. The latest
initiative for the hospital is to fund a health center that will focus
on pregnant women with AIDS, an epidemic problem in the region.
According to Dr. Hudson, Kenya is of interest to Rotarians around
the world. A group of Rotarians from Sweden have been sponsoring
physicians and dentists from their country who work in the rural areas
of Kenya. Dr. Hudson will be in Nairobi for two to four weeks this
fall. |
